Good Shepherd Guest Speaker

5/26/2019

Good Shepherd is excited to announce our special guest speaker for Memorial Day Sunday.  On May 26th, at our 11am service, we will welcome former U.S. federal judge Rollin A. Van Broekhoven, who grew up on the mission field in Guatemala and now, in his retirement, is fulfilling his father’s original ministry call to China where he mentors Chinese lawyers, teaches at multiple law schools, local churches, and a seminary, consults with government officials, and gives speeches on the Christian worldview.  Rollin’s sermon topic will be Engaging Our Culture, based on Acts 16 and 17, specifically focusing on the Apostle Paul's visit to Mars Hill.

Hon. Rollin A. Van Broekhoven, after 32 years on the bench, is a retired Judge in Washington, DC area, and is past President of ICFO, the International Committee on Fundraising Organizations, based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, an association of national charity monitoring organizations. For 25 years, as part of the founding group, he served on the Board of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA), both as Chairman of the Standards Committee and as Chairman of the Board. He was also Chairman of United Response, the creditors' committee, in the bankruptcy of the Foundation for New Era Philanthropy. He has served on a number of nonprofit organization boards, including charitable relief organizations, mission agencies, and educational institutions, over the past 40 years. He is a frequent lecturer and author on jurisprudence, federal litigation, bioethics, worldview analysis of public affairs, and nonprofit issues, and has lectured in universities and conferences around the world, particularly currently as a university visiting scholar and law professor in several universities in China.

We hope you can find time on this busy holiday weekend to join us for this special event.  We will also be celebrating Holy Eucharist with Father Ralph Bayfield.  Light refreshments and a reception in our parish hall will follow after the service.
